Returning OSU Football Players Must Sign COVID-19 Risk Waiver

  • Ohio State University (OSU) football started voluntary workouts last week, but before football players can return to campus, they are required to sign a waiver acknowledging the risk of contracting the coronavirus and requiring players to abide by strict health and safety protocols.
  • The two-page document is called the “Buckeye Pledge.” It outlines the health risks associated with team practices and other athletic activities and requires players to participate in contact tracing efforts, disclose symptoms of the virus, remain home if they feel sick, and report exposures to COVID-19.
  • Additionally, the pledge acknowledges the risk of contracting the virus even if the players follow all health and safety protocols.
  • These kinds of waivers could become a standard in college football especially since fans, if allowed in the stadiums, are also asked to commit to similar acknowledgements of risk prior to attending a game in person.
