Travel ban has added six additional countries, including the most populous country in Africa. The restrictions apply only to immigrant visas, not those temporary visas used by visiting scholars and students.
The ban consists of all would-be immigrants from Burma, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan and Nigeria, and prohibits Sudan and Tanzania nationals from coming to the U.S. Increasing the total number of impacted countries to 13.
NAFSA condemns the expanded travel ban and deems it unwelcoming. They also believe it will the U.S.’s ability to remain competitive and successful in the global market.
The current administration justifies the ban as security based, stating the affected countries do not meet American standards for sharing information about potential threats.
