Committee Democrats Introduce the College Affordability Act

  • The College Affordability Act comes 10 years after the last reauthorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA) and would mean that students can spend less to earn a quality degree.
  • It is a comprehensive overhaul of the higher education system that will lower the cost of college for students and families, improve the quality of higher education through stronger accountability, and expand opportunity by providing students the support and flexibility they need to succeed.
  • The College Affordability Act is a “necessary and sensible response to the challenges that students and families are facing every day,” said Committee Chairman, Bobby Scott.
  • Items addressed include student safety, school accountability, easing the burden of student loans, and making Pell Grants available for short-term programs.
